Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a fire in a flat on Cuxton Road in Rochester.

Four fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets and main jets to extinguish the fire and a high-pressured fan to ventilate the property.

Three people were treated at the scene by SECAmb after suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. It’s believed that the fire started in a tumble dryer.

Before using a tumble dryer or any similar appliance, such as a dishwasher or washing machine, make sure they are good working order and maintained as instructed in the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Only run cycles when you’re home and awake and remember to have a working smoke alarm on each floor of your property.
