Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a small kitchen fire at a flat on Union Street in Maidstone.
Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and started by a faulty toaster.
