UPDATE: Haystack fire near Cranbrook
Incident details
UPDATE at 0850 on 5 September: The earlier advice for people living near to Wittersham Road, Wittersham near Cranbrook, to close windows and doors due to smoke has been lifted.

................................

People living near to Whittersham Road, in Wittersham near Cranbrook, are advised to close windows and doors due to smoke coming from a haystack fire. The haystack has been alight since Tuesday night, and has been left to burn out under controlled conditions under a watching brief, which is normal procedure for fires of this nature. Today, crews have been dragging out sections of hay to dampen it down and progress is being made. Overnight it is being left to burn itself out under controlled conditions once again. While this happens, varying amounts of smoke will come from the scene.
