Kent Fire and Rescue Service attends a range of incidents including fires, road crashes, flooding, rescues from height, mud or confined spaces. It also supports other agencies including Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Martime and Coastguard Agency on a regular basis.

Update: Fire above shop in Biddenden near Ashford

Update at 6pm 
The fire is now out and the High Street is now open. 
 
Update at 12noon on 17/12/18: 
This incident has been scaled down to four fire engines as good progress continues to be made. There are four properties affected and crews are cutting away at the roof to check for hot spots.

Update at 09:50 on 17/12/18: 
 
Kent Fire and Rescue Service remains at the scene of a fire in Biddenden High Street, where good progress is being made and the fire is well contained. Firefighters have worked to prevent the fire spreading and are now opening up the roof to reveal and extinguish any hotspots. The technical rescue team is in attendance and using a drone to get a view of the incident from above. Crews are expected to be on the scene throughout the day and into this evening.

Around 50 firefighters with ten fire engines, plus a specialist height vehicle, bulk water carrier, and a command support vehicle are in attendance at a fire involving shops with accommodation above in High Street, Biddenden near Ashford. 
 
Crews in breathing apparatus are working hard to contain and extinguish the fire, believed to have started on the first floor of the property. Three main jets and a high-pressure hose reel jet with compressed air foam are in use. 
 
Two children have been treated by paramedics for the effects of breathing in smoke. There are currently no other reports of any injuries.
