Incident
Notification - burst pipes
Incident details
Overnight KFRS have received several calls from members of the public who have experienced burst water pipes due to the weather conditions; most people were simply looking at some way of shutting the water off. Unfortunately, in a proportion of cases, there is nothing that we can do to assist.
For any leak, the occupier should try the main stopcock first, this is where the mains water connects to the domestic supply, often under a sink. If you are unable to turn off the stopcock you may be able to turn off the supply from outside – this would normally be where the meter is.
If all above fails please call your water provider and they can come out and isolate the supply to the house. The isolation is merely to prevent any further water damage to the property, any internal repairs will be the responsibility of the homeowner and they will need to contact a plumber.
