Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Herne Bay Pier to rescue a man stuck in mud up to his knees, having been walking on the coast at low tide. Two fire engines and the Coastguard attended, and inflatable mud paths were used to reach the man and bring him to safety.

Following this rescue, firefighters are urging people to take care when walking out on beaches during low tide, to avoid areas of sinking mud, and to be aware of tide times to avoid being cut off from the shore.
