Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a chimney fire at a house in Strood, Rochester.
One fire engine attended the home in Widgeon Road, where crews used chimney gear to extinguish the flames.
No injuries were reported.
Chimneys and flues should be checked at least once a year - twice if used to burn logs - to avoid a build-up of soot or other debris, such as birds' nests, which could catch alight.
