Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a living room fire at a house in St Dunstans, Canterbury.

Two fire engines attended the property in New Street, where crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a hose reel jet, before using a high-pressured fan to clear the home of smoke.

Firefighters rescued one rabbit from the house and used a specialist pet mask to provide the pet with oxygen. Sadly, a cat died.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown but is believed to be accidental.
