Kent Fire and Rescue Service is reminding the public not to drive through flooded roads or deep water after two people needed to be rescued from their car.

The vehicle was stranded in a flooded ford off Station Road in Eynsford, Dartford, after it’s believed water entered the engine and caused it to fail.

Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing dry suits helped the occupants from the roof of the car and took them onto dryland. They were both checked over as a precaution by SECAmb paramedics.

Firefighters and other emergency services were called to the same location on Wednesday (21 January) to a similar incident.

During periods of heavy rain and flooding, people can help to reduce the risk of an emergency by:

  • Not attempting drive or travel through flood water – it’s often a lot deeper than it looks and there could be hidden hazards under the surface.
  • Adjusting your driving to match the weather and road conditions.
  • Keeping plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front.
