Update: 12:45pm Firefighting operations at the scene of a barn fire in Marden have now been completed and the site has been handed back to the landowner. One fire engine remained at the scene this morning to carry out a watching brief. The cause of fire has not yet been established. ..............................Update: 7.45am Monday 16 DecemberFirefighters have spent around 10 hours tackling a barn blaze in Marden overnight. They were initially called to the incident just before 9.30pm on Sunday evening (14 December) and have battled hard throughout the night to successfully bring the blaze under control. The fire involved baled hay in an agricultural barn in Tilden Lane, Marden. Crews used two covering jets and compressed air foam to protect a neighbouring barn. Water was taken from a nearby open water source using a light portable pump.At the height of the fire, six fire engines and around 32 firefighters were tackling the blaze. The incident was reduced to three fire engines and a water unit at 1.24am. Only two fire engines remain at the scene this morning, where crews are keeping a watching brief..................Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) is fighting a blaze involving a barn in Tilden Lane, Marden. KFRS’ Emergency Control Centre received the 999 call just before 9.30pm. Six fire engines, a command support unit, a bulk water carrier and around 32 firefighters are tackling the fire, which involves a barn measuring approximately 40 metres x 50 metres. The barn is believed to contain approximately 350 bales of hay that is alight.At this stage it is not known how the fire started.
