Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a kitchen fire in Dickens Road, Gravesend.

Two fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames before ventilating the property.

It's believed the fire started after the hob was accidentally turned on and ignited an item that was slightly over the hob.

One dog and three cats were rescued, however sadly, one cat died.

To reduce the risk of fire in your kitchen, be sure to keep oven gloves, tea towels and other items that could catch fire at least 50cm away from the hob.
