Firefighting operations have now finished at an industrial unit fire at Detling Aerodrome, Maidstone.

The earlier advice for people in the area to close their windows and doors has been lifted.

At the height of the incident, six fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used main jets to extinguish the flames. The bulk water carrier, firefighting robot and Volunteer Response Team were also in attendance.

There were no reported injuries, and the cause is still not known. 

Update - 6pm 

Crews are no longer advising people living near Detling Aerodrome to close their windows and doors following a fire at an industrial unit this afternoon.

At the height of the incident six fire engines, the bulk water carrier and firefighting robot were all in attendance.

The fire is now under control and three fire engines are still at the scene as crews work to dampen down remaining hotspots.

Kent Police has also confirmed the A249 is back open.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.

Crews are advising people living or travelling near Detling, Maidstone to close windows and doors due to a large amount of smoke in the area, which has been caused by a fire in an industrial unit. 

Six fire engines, the bulk water carrier and firefighting robot are all in attendance and crews are working to tackle the blaze.

It's also advised to avoid the area, as the A249 has been closed in both directions.
