Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a boat fire on the River Medway near to New Court Road in Burham. On arrival crews found a 21ft motor cruiser well alight and two male occupants of the vessel, who'd managed to climb off, were on the river bank. One man in his 40s was treated by firefighters for cuts to his legs and a man in his 30s was treated for minor burns to his right leg. Both men were transferred into the care of SECAmb paramedics. Due to the remote location of the boat, difficult access and tidal waters firefighters held a watching brief carrying out a controlled burn. The fire is believed to have been accidental and is thought to have been caused by a fuel spill that self ignited and spread which then set fire to the boat.
