Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a kitchen fire at a house in Magpie Hall Road, Chatham. Two fire engines attended and crews wore breathing apparatus while using hose reel jets to extinguish the flames. Our Volunteer Response Team (VRT) also attended to provide support for the affected residents. No casualties were reported. It’s believed the fire started accidentally when a hot pan left on the hob caught alight and spread to the extraction fan. Following the incident, people are reminded to take extra care when in the kitchen and not to leave cooking unattended. If you need to leave the room, switch off your cooker. Also, by keeping your hob, grill and oven clean, it helps to reduce the build-up of grease and fat, which could cause a fire.
