You will act as a trusted subject matter expert, providing specialist advice and guidance to businesses, local authorities, and other key stakeholders on fire safety legislation and best practice.

Your leadership, communication, and partnership skills will help shape how we engage with the business community—empowering others to understand their fire safety responsibilities and take proactive steps to protect people, property, and livelihoods.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver expert advice and guidance to businesses and responsible persons on the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and associated legislation.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of risk reduction campaigns and educational initiatives, ensuring high-quality engagement across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, including local authorities and business networks, to share information, raise awareness, and promote compliance.
  • Represent Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) at seminars, workshops, and community events, delivering engaging presentations and updates on national guidance and legislative changes.
  • Support the joint risk-based inspection programme in collaboration with the Building Safety Inspection and Risk Information teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through feedback, learning, and sharing of best practice across the service.

What you’ll bring

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and guide colleagues while fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
  • A sound understanding of building and fire safety legislation, regulatory compliance, and the practical challenges facing local businesses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in engaging a wide range of audiences, sometimes in challenging situations.
  • Strong presentation and IT skills, with the ability to create and deliver content across digital and in-person platforms.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • A commitment to personal and professional development, continuous improvement, and public service excellence.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in English and Maths at Level 2 (Functional Skills or equivalent).
  • Hold, or be willing to achieve within 24 months, a minimum of a Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Experience of working collaboratively across teams and with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership development and experience in a related field such as fire safety, building safety, or regulation.

Benefits

  • Automatic membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Blue Light Card discount scheme supported by a number of high street retailers
  • A range of family friendly policies including promoting work-life balance
  • Access to health and wellbeing services and advice
  • Access to LinkedIn learning online training
  • Free parking
  • Above all you’ll become part of a service that is committed to the safety of our community
