Incident
Out of control bonfire in West Malling
Incident details
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Broadwater Road in West Malling to reports of an out of control bonfire, with flames spreading to grass and bushes in strong winds. One fire engine and a bulk water carrier attended, and crews used hose reel jets to prevent further fire spread and put the fire out. There were no reported injuries.

Following this, firefighters are urging Kent residents to always keep bonfires to a manageable size and to build them well away from greenery, fences and property. It’s also important to stay with the bonfire until it’s fully cooled.
