Woodchip fire in Detling

One fire engine remains at the scene of a fire involving a pile of woodchip in Friningham, Detling near Maidstone. Crews have worked to get the fire under control and are now maintaining a watching brief. Advice for nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke, will remain in place for a number of days.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of a fire involving a large pile of woodchip in Friningham, Detling near Maidstone. Those living or working in the area are currently being asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke coming from the incident. 
 
One fire engine remains at the scene, and crews wearing breathing apparatus have been working to extinguish the fire by damping down hot spots and carrying out a watching brief.
