Final update at 2.50pm on 22 August:

Fire service operations at the scene of the terrace fire in Rose Street, Northfleet, are now complete, and duty of care has been handed to the local authority.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. 

Update at 7am on 22 August:

People living near Rose Street in Northfleet, Gravesend, no longer need to keep windows and doors closed, as firefighting is complete. Please share this information with loved ones and neighbours in the area, who may not have access to the internet. 

Six terrace homes have been impacted by this incident, all severely damaged with partial roof collapse, and our thoughts are with the affected residents. There are no reported injuries. 

Firefighters will be visiting residents in the surrounding properties today to provide reassurance, as part of standard post incident protocol after a fire. 

Crews worked hard to bring the blaze under control yesterday evening (21 August), and the fire was out by 1am today (22 August). Three fire engines were in attendance through the night, and firefighters have been checking for remaining hot spots, damping down, and monitoring the structural stability of the building. Kent Police was also in attendance. 

This morning, one fire engine remains at the scene, and a fire investigation will begin shortly to determine the cause. A local authority structural engineer will also attend, and there will be a multi-agency presence throughout today.  
 

Update at 9.15pm:

Firefighters continue to tackle a fire that is now impacting six terrace houses in Rose Street, Northfleet. KFRS' volunteer response team is at the scene supporting affected residents. 

The earlier advice for people to avoid the area, and for nearby residents to close windows and doors, remains in place.

There are no reported injuries at this time. 
 

Update at 8.10pm:

Ten fire engines, a height vehicle, and a command support unit are now at the scene of a fire impacting four terrace houses in Rose Street, Northfleet.

People are advised to avoid the area, and anyone living nearby is still advised to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.
