Firefighters rescued a resident from a fire at their home in Lordswood, Chatham.

Control operators sent two fire engines to the house in Richmond Close, where crews used a smoke hood to help the person to safety. The piece of kit protects people from inhaling toxic fumes.

The resident was passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics, while crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using hose reel jets and cleared the home of smoke using a high-pressured fan.

It’s believed the fire started accidentally due to an electrical fault.
