Canterbury

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a bedroom fire in Nightingale Avenue, Whitstable.  

Three fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

One person was passed into the care of SECAmb paramedics.

The cause is believed to be accidental, from a laptop battery charger.   

Following this incident, crews are reminding people to:

  • refer to manufacturer’s guidance on charging and storing
  • only charge during the day when you are at home
  • always unplug after use
  • avoid storing, using or charging batteries at very high or low temperatures.
