Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a vehicle alight on the M2 between junctions 2 and 3, coastbound, near Chatham.
Two fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, extinguished the fire using hose reel jets.
National Highways temporarily closed two lanes while crews made the area safe.
There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.
