Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of two bungalows alight on Elwill Way in Istead Rise, near Gravesend.

Four fire engines attended and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets, main jets and fog spikes to extinguish the flames.

The fire is believed to have spread from a chimney fire in one bungalow to the roofing of the neighbouring bungalow.

Fortunately, smoke detectors were installed in the second property, and the alarm was raised in time.

Three people were passed into the care of SECAmb for precautionary checks. The cause is not yet known.
