The red carpet was rolled out for an audience of special guests at the launch of Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s (KFRS) new online safety videos.

The guest list included pupils from Ellington Infant School in Ramsgate, who were treated to an exclusive preview of the engaging four-part series.

The free five-minute videos feature teams from across KFRS and aim to make important fire safety advice more accessible to schools and families.

Matt Clayton, an Education Intervention Officer at KFRS and presenter of the mini-series, said: “Our fire station open days and events are great opportunities to promote fire safety tips to young people, but we understand not everyone can attend or travel to our sites, so we’re bringing the advice to them by going online.

“The short videos focus on everything you would learn at one of our in-person events, including:

• What to do in an emergency
• What number to call in an emergency
• Advice about smoke alarms

“The content is tailored for young children but can be shared with the whole family or watched at school – after all, fire safety is important for everyone to know and learn. We had great fun filming these videos with our crews and a great group of primary school children, who were fantastic helpers, and we hope everyone else enjoys them as well.”

The videos were filmed at Ramsgate fire station with the help of pupils from Ellington Infant School, where a premiere was held for all year groups.

Vikki Bowman, Headteacher at Ellington Infant School, said: “We were delighted to host the premiere of these important online safety videos and to see our pupils involved in such a valuable project with KFRS.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part and learned so much about staying safe in an engaging and memorable way. Partnerships like this help bring learning to life, and we are proud that Ellington Infant School could support such an important initiative for families across Kent.”

And the children said: “'We had so much fun at the fire station! We learned about the fire fighters and how they help keep everyone safe. We also learned what to do if there is an emergency.”
