Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a wildfire in Benenden, Cranbrook.
Control operators sent seven fire engines and a utility terrain vehicle to the scene in Golford Road, where crews used specialist wildfire kit and main jets to extinguish the flames.
Local farmers also supported the incident by using machinery to create fire breaks – which can help to stop fires from spreading.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause is not yet known.
People can help to reduce the risk of a grass or wildfire during spells of hot weather and when the ground is extremely dry, by:
- Disposing of cigarettes safely and never dropping them on the ground.
- Taking litter home with you, as glass and metal can reflect sunlight and increase the risk of fire.
- Avoid having barbecues and lighting bonfires.
And if you see a fire, move to safe space and call 999 for the fire service.
