Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of grass alight next to the M20 between Junction 8 for Hollingbourne, Maidstone and Junction 9 for Ashford.

Two fire engines attended, and crews extinguished the flames using hose reel jets.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause is not known.

People can help to reduce the risk of a fire during spells of hot weather and when the ground is extremely dry, by:

• Disposing of cigarettes safely and never dropping them on the ground or out of a vehicle window
• Taking litter home with you, as glass and metal can reflect sunlight and increase the risk of fire.
