Final update at 4.55pm: 

Crews have used a firefighting robot to extinguish any remaining hotspots at the Grand Burstin hotel in The Harbour, Folkestone. 

Firefighters were sent to the scene earlier today following reports of smoke, which was caused by smouldering laundry

The robot used water to extinguish any signs of fire and to dampen down the surrounding area. 

Crews have left the scene but will carry out routine visits to check for any further hotspots. 

Update at 11:45am

Two fire engines remain at the Grand Burstin hotel, in The Harbour, Folkestone.

Due to concerns regarding the structure of the building, a firefighting robot is being used to extinguish any remaining hotspots.

Crews will remain at the scene for the next few hours.

Initial update

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of smoke coming from the scene of a previous fire at the Grand Burstin Hotel, in The Harbour, Folkestone.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene, where crews are assessing the area, but this has since been reduced to two fire engines. 

Update: It's believed the smoke has been caused by smouldering laundry.
