Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Great Stour River near Canterbury to reports three children and two male adults had fallen from a canoe and were stranded on an island in the middle of the river. Two fire engines were sent to the scene and the crews were able to pull the stranded five to safety. They were treated for signs of hypothermia. They were placed in the care of SECAmb paramedics. It's prompted firefighters to issue safety warnings as people use the county's waterways and lakes. Always make sure you are all confident on and in the water. Avoid stretches of water that are unfamiliar. If you fall in the water, float on your back and stay calm .
