Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to approximately three acres of grass and undergrowth alight in Mote Park in Maidstone.Four fire engines were sent to the scene and crews used an extended hose reel jet to tackle the blaze before damping down any hotspots with hose reel jets and flexi-packs. No casualties have been reported and the cause is not yet known. Following the incident, firefighters are urging anyone who spots a grass fire to report it as soon as possible, providing as much detail on the location so it can be dealt with before it spreads. During periods of hot and dry weather, incidents on grassland have the potential to become much bigger wildfires. To help reduce the risk of a grass fire, ensure you fully extinguish all smoking materials before safely disposing of them and only ever have barbecues in authorised areas. You should also avoid having campfires in the countryside and take any litter or rubbish with you, as reflective cans and glass can easily start a grass fire.
