Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a barley field alight on Roodlands Lane in Edenbridge. Five fire engines were sent to the scene and crews used hose reel jets and fire beaters to tackle the blaze, which had spread to around four hectares of land. The cause is believed to be accidental and there were no reported casualties. Following the incident, firefighters are urging the public and landowners to take extra precautions in warm weather to reduce the risk of a field fire. If you live near woodland or fields, avoid burning off garden rubbish in hot weather. Only ever have barbecues in authorised areas, remember to take any rubbish home with you, and to dispose of all smoking materials safely.
