Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to a fire at a pet shop in Broadway, Sheerness. Six fire engines attended and crews wore breathing apparatus while using hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze on the ground floor. A smoke curtain was also used the stop the flames from spreading. The upper floors, which are used as residential dwellings, were cleared of smoke using high pressured fans. While crews were able to save some of the animals, sadly there was some loss of life. No other casualties were reported. Kent Wildlife Rescue Team also attended, as did Kent Police. The cause is currently not known.
