Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of large amounts of smoke in Slip Mill Lane, in Hawkhurst, near Cranbrook. Three fire engines were sent to the scene and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish an out-of-control bonfire, which had caused the smoke. No casualties were reported. Firefighters are reminding people thinking about having a bonfire to take care when lighting them, and to always keep them well away from sheds, fences, foliage or any property. You should also never leave them unattended and ensure they’re fully extinguished once finished.
