Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of an out of control bonfire in a scrap yard off New Creek Road, Faversham. Two fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to tackle the blaze. No casualties were reported. The cause is believed to be accidental. Following the incident, crews are reminding people to take extra care when lighting bonfires. If you are thinking of lighting one, you can help to reduce the risk of an emergency by following these simple safety tips: - Never leave bonfires unattended - Once you have finished with it, dampen it down fully with water making sure that the fire is out and surroundings are made safe before leaving - Keep them well away from buildings, trees, foliage and overhanging branches
