Equipment: Firefighting - High-pressure hose reel jet

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a shed alight in Stagshaw Close, Maidstone. Two fire engines attended and crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames and dampen down the surrounding area. No casualties were reported. It’s believed the fire was caused accidentally when embers from a barbecue caused a shed to catch alight. Following the incident, and with the current spell of warmer temperatures, crews are reminding people to take extra care when using any outdoor fire, including barbecues, fire pits and braziers. Make sure they’re in good working order and before lighting, ensure they are positioned on a flat surface and kept well away from your property, sheds, fences and any overhanging branches, which could easily catch alight.
