Firefighters tackle derelict nightclub fire in Folkestone
LATEST - 7:45am Remain crews are now damping down at Marine Gardens. An investigation into the fire will take place later today.
UPDATE - 5:45am Kent Fire and Rescue Service is still on the scene at Marine Gardens in Folkestone. Crews are continuing to tackle any remaining seats of fire as they break through.
UPDATE - 10:45pm Good progress is being made in tackling the blaze, firefighters are using the height vehicle to tackle the fire from above. There are no reported injuries. The cause of the fire isn't yet known.
WARNING: Residents nearby the building in Marine Gardens are urged to close all windows and doors as a precaution to the thick smoke.
UPDATE - 10:15pm Firefighters are using breathing apparatus, six main jets and two water hydrants to tackle the blaze. The roof of the property is well alight.
UPDATE - 9:45pm Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of a large fire at a derelict nightclub in Folkestone. When crews arrived in Marine Gardens they were faced with thick smoke issuing from the main entrance of the former nightclub. In the early stages of tackling the fire crews are using main jets and a water hydrant to tackle the well established fire. Kent Police are in attendance to manage the traffic and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
WARNING: People living near to Marine Terrace are urged to close windows and doors while the firefighting takes place.
