Kent Fire and Rescue Service attends a range of incidents including fires, road crashes, flooding, rescues from height, mud or confined spaces. It also supports other agencies including Kent Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and the Martime and Coastguard Agency on a regular basis.

Update: Straw bales alight in Sittingbourne

Firefighting work is now complete and the scene is soon to be left in the care of the landowner. 
 
Residents living nearby in areas such as Yelsted and Stockbury are still advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke. 
 
No casualties have been reported and the cause has not been confirmed.

Update: 9:15pm 
 
One fire engine remains at the scene of a fire on South Street Road in Sittingbourne. At its height, four fire engines were on the scene and crews were using hose reel jets to tackle the blaze within a pile of straw bales. Firefighters are now carrying out a watching brief and residents living nearby in areas such as Yelsted and Stockbury are still advised to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution due to smoke. No casualties have been reported and the cause has not been confirmed.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is currently at the scene of large amount of straw bales alight on South Street Road in Sittingbourne. Two fire engines are on the scene and crews have been working to tackle and reduce the fire spread. Firefighters are now maintaining a watching brief and monitoring for hot spots. 
 
Those living or working nearby are currently being advised to close windows and doors as a precaution due to smoke.
