Incident
Hay bale fire in Capel-le-Ferne
Incident details
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to hay bales alight in Hockley Sole Lane, Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone.

Two fire engines attended and crews extinguished the flames using hose reel jets and drag rakes.

It’s believed strong winds blew embers from a nearby bonfire towards the hay bales, and caused them to catch alight.

No casualties were reported.

People are reminded the current advice is not to have bonfires, but if you do choose to have one, please do so safely.

Bonfires should be lit well away from any buildings, trees and fences. It’s also best to inform your neighbours in advance to avoid any concern.
